Senator wants inquiry into RIAA tactics

Minnesota Republican Senator Norm Coleman Has launched an inquiry into the RIAA's "Subpoena them all and let God sort them out" tactics for dealing with file-sharers.

A largely party-line man, the senator (and one-time roadie for Ten Years After) is worried about the impact of generating writs like so much junk mail: "[T]he industry seems to have adopted a 'shotgun' approach that could potentially cause injury and harm to innocent people who may have simply been victims of circumstance, or possessing a lack of knowledge of the rules related to digital sharing of files."

The RIAA has managed the nearly unprecedented feat of alienating the public, big business (Verizon and SBC), academia (MIT and Boston College), and the government. They'd better put that former GOP lobbyist to work quickly.
